Can I Get My Windshield Repaired the Same Day?
Yes. In most cases, you can.
At Pitstop Auto Glass, we've fixed windshields since 1997. Our Carmel Mountain shop has done same-day repairs since 2008. We've seen almost every kind of chip and crack. Same-day repair is normal for us, not rare.
But "usually" isn't "always." So let's walk through how it works.
How Same-Day Repair Works
You don't need to book weeks out. Just check our drive-up hours at PitstopAutoglass.com and pull in.
Here's what happens:
You drive up during our posted hours
A tech looks at the chip or crack
We test the damage to see if it can be repaired
We do the repair, usually in 15 to 20 minutes
You drive off with a fixed windshield
That 15 to 20 minute window is just for the repair. Your full visit may take longer. Why? Because some windshields need extra prep work first.
The Step Most People Don't Know About
Most folks think repair is simple. Fill the chip, done. But there's more to it.
Car washes, waxes, and ceramic coatings leave behind residue. This gunk can get into a chip or crack. If we repair over it, the fix won't bond. It won't hold.
So we test the damage first. This matters most with longer cracks. We check for ceramic coating, soap, or wax buildup.
If we find residue, we use a special chemical wash to break it down. Think of it like using hydrogen peroxide on a cut. You clean the wound before you treat it. Some windshields need this wash before the repair. Some need it after. Some need it both times.
Every windshield we touch gets tested and primed first. We never skip this step. Some shops do. That's often why their repairs don't last.
What Decides If You Can Get a Same-Day Fix
Not every chip qualifies for same-day repair. Here's what we check:
Size — small chips and short cracks repair best
Location — damage right in your line of sight may need a full replacement instead
Depth — surface damage repairs well; deep damage often doesn't
Age — older chips collect more dirt and grime over time
Crack length — long cracks get extra testing for coating and residue
Weather — extreme heat or cold can affect how the resin cures
If a windshield fails our test, we'll tell you straight. Sometimes replacement is the safer, smarter call. Check our windshield replacement guide to learn when that's the case.
No Two Windshields Are the Same
After 25-plus years in this business, here's what I know for sure: there's no such thing as a routine windshield.
Every windshield that comes through our Carmel Mountain shop gets tested on its own. Primed on its own. Treated based on what it actually needs.
Some need the chemical wash before the repair. Some need it after. Some need it both times. No two jobs are alike. Each windshield is as unique as a fingerprint. That's not a sales pitch. That's just what years of hands-on work teaches you.
So, Can You Get It Fixed Today?
If your chip is small, your crack is short, and it's not blocking your view, chances are good you can drive up and drive away fixed — today.
The best way to know for sure? Bring it in. Check our posted hours below or at PitstopAutoglass.com and let a tech take a look. Most repairs take just 15 to 20 minutes once we know what we're dealing with.
